This would cover the server and the 50 acquisition stations that we could distribute across the state as needed.
Which of the following levels would we purchase, and would we want to try to cover a few years of the annual fee up front?
• Level 2 (up to 50,000 stored images) $19,800, with $3,900 annual maintenance fee, may be the initial investment needed.
• We need to investigate the “unlimited stored images” option, which is priced at $49,800 with an annual Maintenance fee of $8,900 for single organization.
How will purchase/maintenance costs be funded?
One disadvantage of waiting until after the grant period has ended to make the switch is that we will not have grant funds to purchase level 2 or unlimited access, or for annual costs.
Funding for ContentDM is one of several sustainability issues that the November report to Tenn-Share will address. Discussion among library directors, ContentDM site managers, and Tenn-Share Board will be necessary to determine the best funding options for ContentDM as well as for other components of the Volunteer Voices program.
Options include:
• Having a very small portion of new TEL funds applied to Volunteer Voices for the purchase of ContentDM. This is probably not likely, given that TEL is still highly tied to commercial databases.
• Investigate the possibility of negotiating from existing ContentDM accounts, particularly if the Multi-Site Server option is selected.
• Investigate cost-sharing based on the size (or budget?) of institutions that contribute content to Volunteer Voices. Wisconsin Heritage Online bases membership fees on institution size. See: http://wiheritage.pbwiki.com/f/memberformFY08.doc
